What makes you, you? It’s it the collection of our experiences coupled with environmental influence and genetic predisposition? Perhaps. But consider: if we were a blank slab of marble and all of those influences shape us, we become a carving. An indentation. Our lives grind out groves who make us who we are. I do not like this analogy. I prefer to think of myself as a relief. Instead of being carved into the slab, the area surrounding who I am is removed, revealing the truth underneath. In this vein of thought, it is not who or what I am which defines me; it is who and what I am NOT. Just as a cup is made to hold a liquid, it is the space inside, the absence, which makes the cup valuable. So the next time you are put into a position to have to consider your worth, try to put more stock into what you are not vs what you are.
Caution - Incoming Rant:
Have I read the bible? Yes I have, cover to cover, three times. I’ve also read the Koran, the Bhagavad-Gita, Tao Te Ching, The Anarchist Cookbook and Black Belt Patritoism by Chuck Norris.
Bottom line, people are generally full of shit and anything written by anyone proclaiming their writing to be divine in nature is equally full of shit. Full of shit, or higher than Stephen Hawking’s IQ.
I’m not saying there’s no God; I’m saying when someone speaking about the horrific shootings in Aurora CO says when the gun of the cunt shooting up that theater jammed, that it was “an act of God”, I can’t help but think, “why didn’t God jam his gun before the first round was fired? Guess he was too busy watching children starve to death in Darfur or not stopping the Chinese from throwing their unwanted babies in dumpsters.”
Clearly my idea of God is different from the beliefs of most people who believe in God. Just look at my phrasing. My IDEA of God versus other people’s BELIEFS of God.
An idea is a concept or mental impression. It’s permeable: can be changed, molded, altered, expanded and contracted. It’s fluid, like water.
A belief is when one holds a premise or proposition to be true. True and false is very treacherous duality to apply to humanity. It creates opposition, defiance and conflict. Beliefs are ingrained, indoctrinated and very, very difficult to reverse.
I have a hard time engaging in deep intellectual conversation to anyone with beliefs. They are often more interested in defending their position and/or proving you wrong or, when they know they don’t have a chance at out thinking you, pretend to listen.
I’m losing steam here, getting distracted, so I’ll end on this: many of messages contained within various religions are beautiful, worthwhile and powerful stories on how to be a better person. They are teachings. Teaching is meant to provoke thought and develop IDEAS, not indoctrinate someone into a belief system aka brainwash.
Fuck the conventional concepts of God. Be your own God. Love one another regardless of gender, race, sexuality or political affiliation. Approach life with your mind, heart and arms open. We only get a short time on this rock flying though space so spend less time allowing dogma divide us and allow ideas and concepts to unite us.
Much love.
Great commentary on the state of men, the death of chivalry and the lacking of male maturity when it comes to swords.
This is purgatory.
Caught here in limbo.
IQ of a dim bulb.
How many fools does it take to screw in the likes…
Of me.
